Developer Framework
LangGraph Platform review
Managed hosting and observability for LangGraph's open-source agent orchestration framework
Pros
- Built on LangGraph's graph-based orchestration, which handles complex branching agent logic well
- LangSmith adds real tracing and evaluation tooling for debugging agent behavior in production
- The underlying framework stays free and open-source, so there's no lock-in to use the paid platform
- Strong fit for teams already invested in the LangChain ecosystem
Cons
- Total production cost (Platform + LangSmith + LLM API usage) adds up faster than the headline price suggests
- Steeper learning curve than higher-level, more opinionated agent builders
- Primarily a framework/infrastructure layer, not a turnkey agent product
Our take
LangGraph Platform is the commercial layer on top of LangChain's open-source LangGraph framework, adding managed hosting and LangSmith observability for teams that have outgrown running agents on their own infrastructure. The framework itself remains free, so the platform is really a hosting and monitoring decision rather than a requirement, but for teams debugging complex agent graphs in production, the tracing tools are hard to replicate in-house.
Best for
Developers already using LangChain/LangGraph who need production-grade hosting and monitoring
Pricing
Open-source LangGraph framework is free; LangGraph Platform hosting starts around $35/month, with LangSmith observability at $39/seat/month plus usage-based fees
